You can't fight City Hall...
But, on a calm day, you can at least appreciate the architecture!

Old Ottawa City Hall

Besides, it isn't City Hall anymore. After costing the local taxpayers an arm and a fricken' leg to build this one on a gorgeous island right by the Rideau Falls - the province insisted that the municipalities of Ottawa, Nepean, Kanata, Vanier, Rockliffe, etc amalgamated to save money. So, being idiots polititians, the first way they saved us was to:

1) Build a spiffy grand NEW city hall on one of the most expensive chunks of land in the city. and
2) Sell off this one at a discount to the Federal Government.

You see, the other munipalities didn't want to be seen to be being absorbed into the original city by being forced into the Ottawa building, so they agreed on a new "neutral ground" site.

This was how we all "saved money". By spending it.

Yep - it's a government project.....

In other news, I'd like the person who stole my son's brand new bike to drop by for a visit so I could give him a nice quick boot to the nuts. Maybe two.

Assholes.

It was taken from alongside the house. He forgot to put it away last night, and we forgot to remind him. He claims it was locked, but who knows. He wasn't the most diligent when it came to that.

Somehow, I don't think he'll need many reminders anymore... he was pretty broken up about it. And fortunately they still had one of the same model and colour at the store, so I got him a full replacement.

Still. Assholes to rip off a kid.

1. Loved the picture of the building and reflection. And yes, our government down here has done equally stupid things (FEMA and Hurricane Katrina - enough said).

2. I'm sorry to hear about Jake's bike. It's really too bad someone had to resort to that. I'm glad he got a new one though. Might I suggest an ID number on a hidden part of the bike so if it happens again it might aid in reocvery?

And please also give your lovely missus my regards.

Regards given :) And we have the serial number on the bike. Not convinced that the police really give a crap about stolen bikes though, so unless someone finds it abandoned and turns it in I expect that it is gone.

What can I say, governments everywhere sometimes do "a heckuva job!"
